The Cannes Film Festival has returned for its 78th edition, running from May 13 to 26, 2025. This year’s event, chaired by acclaimed actress Juliette Binoche, continues to dazzle with cinematic brilliance and unforgettable red-carpet moments. This blog will delve into Sarees at Cannes 2025 with Aishwarya & Aditi Leading the Way.

Indian celebrities are making waves at Cannes 2025, turning heads with bold, elegant fashion choices. Sarees, in particular, have stolen the spotlight, capturing the attention of global fashion watchers.

Leading this saree takeover are two Bollywood beauties – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aditi Rao Hydari. Their stunning saree looks have lit up the French Riviera, proving once again that Indian heritage wear belongs on the world’s grandest stage.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: The Queen Returns

Marking her 22nd appearance at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once again proved why she reigns supreme on the global red carpet. The iconic actress made a grand entrance at Cannes 2025 in an exquisite ivory-hued Banarasi saree, designed by none other than celebrity couturier Manish Malhotra.

This masterpiece shimmered with delicate rose gold and silver brocade work, further elevated by real silver zari embroidery that spoke volumes of India’s timeless textile artistry. The saree was handwoven using the rare Kadwa technique from Varanasi, where artisans meticulously craft each intricate motif.

Adding an extra layer of regal elegance, the Devdas actress paired her saree with a luxurious tissue dupatta, featuring real gold and silver zardozi detailing.

Complimenting her elegant saree, Aishwarya’s jewellery was nothing short of breathtaking – heirloom pieces adorned with over 500 carats of Mozambique rubies. The statement necklace alone carried more than 290 carats, complemented by a sculptural neckpiece set with 30 carats of rubies and uncut diamonds, all mounted in 18k gold.

Sealing her look with a traditional touch, the actress gracefully wore sindoor, symbolising her roots while standing tall on an international stage. Aishwarya’s appearance was more than fashion – it was a celebration of India’s rich heritage woven into contemporary couture.

Aditi Rao Hydari: The Picture of Grace

Radiating the charm of the newlywed that she is, Aditi Rao Hydari graced the Cannes 2025 red carpet with an effortless elegance that left onlookers enchanted. The actress, known for her ethereal beauty and timeless style, embraced tradition with a striking red saree from Raw Mango.

Draped to perfection, the rich red saree featured a delicate blue border that added a striking contrast to the ensemble. Paired with a matching sleeveless blouse, Aditi’s look was a masterclass in understated glamour.

Hydari kept her accessories minimal – a statement necklace and classic earrings – allowing the saree’s bold hue to take center stage.

Her makeup was soft and natural, highlighting her luminous complexion. But it was the subtle details that truly defined her appearance – a deep red bindi and a streak of sindoor adorned her hairline, a graceful nod to her recent marriage to actor Siddharth in a traditional ceremony last year.

Aditi’s look wasn’t just about fashion; it was about storytelling. In a sea of contemporary couture, she carried the essence of Indian bridal elegance with simplicity and pride, proving once again that heritage and modernity can co-exist beautifully on the world’s most glamorous red carpet.

Alia Bhatt debuts Gucci’s first-ever saree on the Cannes Red Carpet

Adding to the saree celebration at Cannes 2025, Alia Bhatt made fashion history at the closing ceremony. The actress arrived in a nude-hued, sequinned saree-inspired drape from Gucci – a monumental moment, as it marked the brand’s first-ever creation in the iconic Indian silhouette.

Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Bhatt’s ensemble shimmered with Gucci’s signature GG monogram, rendered in a delicate mesh jaal. The look blended tradition with contemporary couture, featuring a plunging blouse, a straight-cut skirt, and a dupatta-like drape cascading elegantly.

Adorned in Swarovski crystals from head to toe, Alia’s ensemble paid homage to Indian heritage while seamlessly fitting into the glamour of the French Riviera.

She styled her hair in vintage Hollywood waves, finishing the look with a timeless diamond tennis necklace – effortlessly merging classic charm with modern edge on the world’s grandest red carpet.

Other Indian Celebrities Who Embraced Sarees at Cannes 2025

While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aditi Rao Hydari stole the spotlight, they weren’t the only ones championing the saree at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Here are some of the other Indian celebrities who arrived at the French Riviera draped in this timeless garment.

Sharmila Tagore

Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, who needs no introduction, was at Cannes 2025 for the 4K restoration of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 film Aryaner Din Ratri, in which the 80-year-old starred as Aparna. For the occasion, Tagore wore an emerald green silk saree adorned with a gold zari border.

Her outfit was accessorized with a gold pendant, matching earrings, and a sleek silver watch.

Parul Gulati

Actress, model, and entrepreneur Parul Gulati made a striking debut at Cannes 2025, blending tradition with bold modernity.

Styled by Mohit Rai in a custom Riddhi Bansal Banarasi tissue saree fused with resin, her look created a liquid-metal illusion. The sheer, metallic drape clung gracefully, reflecting both heritage and rebellion.

Parul elevated her statement with a dramatic nose ring and cascading hand jewels, redefining Indian craftsmanship for a global audience.

Nitibha Kaul

Indian YouTuber, Nitibha Kaul,  turned heads at Cannes 2025 in a deep blue saree paired with a striking armour-shaped blouse from Nikhil Thampi’s “NAIA: Rebirth of a Goddess” collection. The fluid, minimal saree beautifully balanced the bold, Kundan stone-studded blouse.

She completed her look with a sleek braid, adorned at the end with a Kundan-stone bow, and matching stud earrings. Her understated makeup added lustre to her ensemble, blending tradition with futuristic glam.

Chhaya Kadam

After the release of he 2024 film All We Imagine As Light last year, actress Chhaya Kadam returned to the French Riviera this year in an ombré red-and-pink modal mul saree by Suta Bombay.

Featuring a unique smocked pattern, soft ruffled hem, and tasselled pallu, Kadam’s look was playful yet elegant. She paired her saree with a high-neck red blouse with pink accents and kept accessories minimal – a bracelet, vibrant earrings and chic sunglasses completing her breezy, contemporary ensemble.
